This was such a lovely wedding! It took place at the Grand Bohemian Hotel in uptown Charlotte, NC. Teja and Raynard’s styled theme centered around red roses, velvet, and all things textured. It was an absolutely beautiful wedding. The Grand Bohemian Hotel is breathtaking alone. To factor in all the decor, it just rubbed extra icing on the cake.

Dion & Cortnie decided they wanted to have some images taken on the beach, but were unsure where would be the best place to go. We did some digging and a little research and were able to locate the perfect spot that offered beautiful landscaping of trees, rocks, and the beach of course!

Beautiful Trees.

These images came out lovely! We couldn’t capture the beginning of their wedding journey without taking some images with this natural landscape. Once we completed this look it was off to the rocks for captures!

Solid as a Rock…

Look 2 in front of the beach and on the rocks was a hit! The look was so classic and just right for the scenery!

Let’s catch some waves…

The 3rd and final look, we had to catch some waves and splash around a bit. They were ready for it!

Nothing gets us more excited than our clients being proud of their images and sending them off for publication. Kris & Xavier’s engagement session was completed on the rooftop of the Grand Bohemian hotel, and we scurried off to the final images uptown at Romare Bearden Park. We had a blast! I’ll keep this blog short and just let you see the images for yourself!

**FYI: If you are interested in having your images published with a bridal/portrait magazine, be sure to get clearance from your photographer. 9/10 they will definitely agree to it, but most publishing agencies will ask for authorization from the photographer.

Top 4 Things to Know About Wedding Preparation Images

How couples can best prepare for their images before the ceremony.

Kure Beach, NC Wrightsville Beach, NC Kure Beach Weddings, NC wedding photographer Charlotte Wedding photographer Black female photographer Charlotte NC weddings Charlotte Engagement Session Grand Bohemian Hotel Charlotte, NC NC bride Charlotte Bride

When it comes to wedding preparation, there are so many things to consider. It’s honestly every photographers dream to capture all of the feels, details, and moments, leading up to the big parts of a couples day! To make it absolutely amazing!!! Note I didn’t say perfect, and that’s actually a piece of information I’ll share later in this reading, but yessss to amazing images and all the feels! Let’s get into it.

  1. Gather ALL details and accessories beforehand and have in a designated area for your photographer/videographer.

If you’ve got shoes, wedding dress, perfume, earrings, rings, veil, etc. all in one space it makes it very easy for your photographer to capture all of the detailed images and most times get creative with the shots when everything is designated in one area. When these things are not gathered, everyone is in a state of panic walking around room to room in search of all of the details. Do yourself and your photographer a favor and have it ALL designated in one location. This will save so much time and energy!

2. SMILE and enjoy your moments as they come.

We can’t say this enough. I’m generally reminding couples of this throughout the day, especially my brides. LOL. It’s so easy to overhear something or someone asks a question that raises eyebrows and causes perplexed looks on faces. I’ve heard a few curse words, seen neck rolls and hands fly…it’s just all a part of the experience. Remember when we said to make your moments amazing and not perfect? Yes, that was for a reason. Nothing about the day will be 100% perfect. Things can and WILL happen that can affect how you experience your wedding day. Regardless of what happens, let the chips fall! Designate others beforehand that you trust, and hire an amazing coordinator to handle situations during moments of crisis. This frees you from worrying about them and focusing on what matters most during this time, you getting married!!! So chill, breath, and SMILE and let someone else figure out the challenges that arise. You will thank me later when you review your wedding images. :)

3. Don’t worry about us…we’re just flys on the wall

Well not really, but we want to capture the moments and feels as they happen. If we need to move you to a window with natural lighting to get a better shot we will. We may also guide you or request that you stand a certain way or smile in SOME images, but you can be sure that most of these preparation images will be completely natural and candid in nature. Don’t worry about us. REALLY! Just focus on taking your all the moments of your day in.

Keep it traditional…or not (make it your own!)

4. Consider writing a note to your love, or gifting him/her with something prior to the ceremony. You could also have a prayer with your closest friends and/or family members. All of these things and others help to create timeless moments of meaningful things and values that are near and dear to both of you. Regardless of what they are we will be sure to snap!

Unplugged Wedding Ceremonies…let’s talk about it.

Sooo..we all know that smartphones and tablets aren’t going anywhere. You can practically do EVERYTHING with them. But what happens when you’re at a sacred wedding ceremony, and your photographer is trying to capture all of the “feels” and candid moments, but there’s a blaring light coming from someones cell phone or we grab their arm or entire body in an image holding up a cell phone?

Some couples are perfectly fine with this happening. Being the passionate photographers we are, we truly admire beautiful images of you and your family or spouse to be without someone’s phone in the background. We just wanted to be sure we shared with you what it is and how you can incorporate it into your upcoming wedding if it is your preference and makes a difference for you.

I recall one wedding we did, the bride was amazingly beautiful in her gown walking down the aisle. Unbeknownst to us, a figure to the left of me was holding his phone out. Mind you, we cannot just push guests of the couple out of the way and tell them to move…the framing of my image of this bride was so beautiful, but I had an entire male figure holding a camera in the image. (Sad face).

When we talk about unplugged weddings, this is essentially saying you prefer that no one take images or mention the ceremony via phone while it is happening. Some people prefer to “go live” on facebook or youtube, and I don’t discourage even going live on Zoom (especially if the device is recording in a remote area for people who could not attend). But to have EVERYONE with their phone out can be a little invasive to a couple’s special ceremony.

How can I promote an unplugged wedding to my guests?

There’s a few options for this.

  • Send out a special notice with your invitation explaining your reason for an unplugged ceremony.

  • You could also say “we want you to relax on our special day and let the photographer do all the work”. You can blame us, we won’t mind…lol.

  • You can mention that you will be sharing images with your family as well so they don’t feel robbed of getting memories of your day.

  • Some couples have even had their DJ or host give a quick reminder to guests immediately before the precessional of the ceremony.

  • Create a chalkboard or canvas at the entry of the ceremony as a reminder.

A Wedding Consultation, What’s That?

Kure Beach, NC Wrightsville Beach, NC Kure Beach Weddings, NC wedding photographer Charlotte Wedding photographer Black female photographer Charlotte NC weddings Charlotte Engagement Session Grand Bohemian Hotel Charlotte, NC NC bride Charlotte Bride

Aright so let me give you the rundown real quick.

The question that is sometimes raised from our clients is…why do you have to meet with us?

The question I want to ask you is..why not? LOL. A wedding venue and the vendors you select to service your wedding needs are all considered investments. You’re investing in photography services for an AMAZING outcome (usually the goal). There is a chance with some vendors (no shade) that the return may not be as great as expected or nonexistent.

Here a few major reasons why wedding consultations are important:

Kure Beach, NC Wrightsville Beach, NC Kure Beach Weddings, NC wedding photographer Charlotte Wedding photographer Black female photographer Charlotte NC weddings Charlotte Engagement Session Grand Bohemian Hotel Charlotte, NC NC bride Charlotte Bride
  1. We have the awesome opportunity to learn about you, your story as a couple and how you met! Every love story is different in it’s own amazing way. It’s important to us to capture your day specifically to who you are as a couple.

  2. Not every photographer is your ideal vendor. It’s important to us that we are able to meet your needs and be a best fit for you. A consult gives you the opportunity to figure that out.

  3. We can tell you all about our services and explain to you your investment into our photography services in detail. With this explanation, you get a thorough understanding of what you are investing into.

  4. It eases any anxiety during the wedding process!

I know it sounds crazy uncomfortable for some people in such a socially distanced world, but it is truly helpful in gaining insight about who you are hiring as your photographer. There’s more to the investment than a text message and email. We want to make your experience as personable as possible!

Trust me, planning a wedding can be overwhelming. We're here to take some of that off of you!

Okay, so you’ve inquired for wedding services with us…what now?

  • After the initial inquiry has entered our inbox, we greet you and do a little dance cause we’re excited about the opportunity to capture yet another love story! YAY!

  • We then send you a calendar invite giving you the opportunity to schedule a 20-30 minute zoom/phone chat with us regarding your needs and our services.

  • A proposal is sent to you with all the information you provided from the consult.

  • You can now make an informed decision now that you’ve met with us! See that wasn’t so hard!!!! LOL
